introducing the San Luis Valley!

Where will I be going to school? Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado: you can find it in the center of the big snowy white spot in the middle of the mountains that's down right along the border of New Mexico! Lots of skiing, snowboarding, hotsprings and hiking 14ers for those who want to come visit me! : ) Wait, did I mention I'll have a full sized hide-a-bed in my front room for you to stay on?...as long as you can entertain yourself when I'm in classes : )

The San Luis Valley is the largest alpine valley in North America. It's also got a population density of 6 people per square mile (here's where I should insert some little joke about my mom not holding her breath about me getting married during my time here! Sorry Momma-Ruth, doesn't look very likely!) Agriculture is big here--barley, alfalfa, potatoes, mushrooms, spinach--which also brings a number of migrant workers to work the fields.

Here's some distances to surrounding cities for those of you who like that sort of thing: Santa Fe 2.5 hrs/134 mi; Taos 1.75 hrs/90miles; Denver is 4 hrs/240 miles away; CO Springs 3hrs/170miles; Portland 22 hrs 2min; Newton around 10 hrs (or there's always the Amtrak that comes close by in Trinidad, CO).

here's a kind of ugly close-up map of the area:
